About Us
HUF was born from the streets—literally. In the gritty, raw New York City of the 1980s, founder Keith Hufnagel came of age alongside skateboarding’s early street generation. Back then, skateboarding wasn’t a trend—it was part of a bigger underground mix of hip hop, punk, graffiti, and streetwear. It shaped how he saw the world.
In 1992, Keith moved to San Francisco and turned pro, traveling the globe with his board. But his roots never left him. Wanting to give back to the communities that raised him, he opened the first HUF shop in 2002, tucked away on a quiet block in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. It wasn’t just a store—it was a hub, bringing together the most respected skate, streetwear, and sneaker brands under one roof.
Before long, HUF became a Bay Area institution for hard-to-find gear, drawing in a new wave of skaters, artists, and creatives. That momentum led Keith to launch his own apparel line—one that captured everything he believed skateboarding and street culture stood for.
Today, based in Los Angeles, HUF is recognized worldwide as one of the most influential skate and lifestyle brands. We collaborate with artists, designers, musicians, photographers, and boundary-pushing tastemakers, while staying grounded in a crew of diverse skateboarders and ambassadors who embody our ethos.
HUF is the continuation of Keith’s original vision: clean aesthetics, bold design, and craftsmanship you can feel. For over 15 years, we haven’t followed culture—we’ve pushed it forward by refusing to conform to it.
